Having a signal mirror aboard can be a lifesaver.
This simple, effective tool is one of the most frequently recommended items to have ready in case of a man overboard emergency. However, reflecting light directly onto a distant target can be extremely difficult, especially when the victim is bobbing around in heavy seas.
ACR’s new Hot Shot Signal Mirror enables users to “see” when proper alignment with the sun and target is achieved, ensuring optimum sighting by rescue personnel. When the target image, the mirror and the sun are in proper alignment, a red dot appears in the mirror’s special viewing window.
A buoyant float is attached to the mirror, allowing for easy recovery if it is dropped overboard. A lanyard and a Coast Guard-approved whistle is also attached, to sound an audible alert in low-visibility conditions.
The Hot Shot Signal Mirror’s street price is around $9.99.
